Overview

Kanchanaburi is too good for a rushed day trip. On this overnight escape you get the Second World War history at an unhurried pace, a ride on the Death Railway, and a night in a floating raft-house hotel on the River Kwai, with no road noise and the jungle right across the water.

Day two is for Erawan Falls, early, before the day-trippers from Bangkok arrive.

Itinerary

Day 1Bangkok to the River Kwai

Morning pickup and drive west. Visit the War Cemetery and the railway museum, walk the bridge, then ride the Death Railway to Tham Krasae. Transfer upriver by longtail to your raft house for a swim and dinner on the water.

Day 2Erawan Falls and back to Bangkok

Breakfast on the river, then an early start at Erawan National Park to climb the seven tiers and swim in the pools. Lunch, then drive back to Bangkok, arriving early evening.
