Visiting Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay
Ha Long Bay's thousands of limestone islands are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the best-known sight in northern Vietnam. Lan Ha Bay, next door near Cat Ba Island, has the same scenery with fewer boats.
Best time to go
March to May and September to November usually have the best mix of weather and visibility. From about June to September, storms can close the bay at short notice. December to February is cool and misty, and fewer people swim.
What to do
- An overnight cruise with kayaking and swimming stops.
- Caves such as Sung Sot, depending on the route.

- Lan Ha Bay's quieter lagoons and beaches.
