Visiting Pattaya
Pattaya is a busy beach city about 2 hours from Bangkok, which makes it an easy add-on to a city stay. The best of the area is just offshore on Koh Larn and at two landmarks inland.
Best time to go
The weather follows Bangkok: November to February is the most comfortable, March to May is hot, and June to October brings afternoon rain.
What to see
- Koh Larn, with clearer water and calmer beaches than the city.
- The Sanctuary of Truth, a huge hand-carved wooden temple by the sea, still being built.
- Nong Nooch Tropical Garden.
- Jomtien Beach, the quieter side of Pattaya.
Getting there
Pattaya is about 150 km from central Bangkok and roughly 1.5 hours from Suvarnabhumi airport by road.
Pattaya: common questions
How long does it take to get to Koh Larn?
About 15 to 20 minutes by speedboat, or around 40 minutes on the public ferry.
Is Pattaya worth visiting?
It's a good choice if you want a short beach break without flying. For quieter beaches and island scenery, the Andaman coast or the Gulf islands are better.
