Visiting Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem
Koh Rong and its smaller neighbour Koh Rong Samloem are Cambodia's best-known islands, with white sand, clear water and very few roads. They're ideal for a few slow days at the end of a trip.
Best time to go
November to April has the calmest seas. In the rainy season, roughly June to October, ferries can be cancelled in rough weather, and we move or refund the trip if that happens.
What to do
- Snorkelling and island-hopping boat days.
- Long Set Beach and Sok San Beach on Koh Rong.
- Saracen Bay and Lazy Beach on Koh Rong Samloem.
- Glowing plankton in the water on dark nights.
Getting there
The expressway from Phnom Penh to the coast takes about 2.5 hours. From Sihanoukville, speedboat ferries reach the islands in under an hour.

Koh Rong has more beaches and places to eat. Koh Rong Samloem is quieter and more laid-back.
Is there power and Wi-Fi on the islands?
Most resorts have both, but some run on generators and the connection can be limited. It's part of the islands' charm.
