Overview

Ayutthaya was the capital of Siam for four centuries, and its brick temples still stand in a UNESCO-listed park an hour north of Bangkok. We drive up in the morning and come back the slow way, on a river cruise down the Chao Phraya with lunch on board.

It's a full day, but the return by boat means you arrive rested, with the city skyline rising around you.

Good to know

Cover shoulders and knees for the temples.
The cruise may be swapped for a road return on some Mondays or in very high river levels.
