Overview

The mountains of the far north: walk down through rice terraces to the villages of Lao Chai and Ta Van with a local guide, and spend the night in a family homestay.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1Hanoi to Sapa & trek

    Early limousine bus from Hanoi to Sapa on the expressway (about 5.5 hours). After lunch, trek downhill through the terraces to Lao Chai and Ta Van, arriving at your homestay for dinner.

  2. Day 2Waterfall walk & back to Hanoi

    Morning walk to a waterfall and bamboo forest, lunch in the village, then a car back to Sapa and the bus to Hanoi, arriving in the evening.

Good to know

  • Trails are muddy in the rainy season (about May to September); wear shoes with grip.
  • Sapa is cold from December to February; bring warm layers.
  • Upgrade to a Sapa hotel instead of the homestay; ask for a quote.
  • Prices are per person in Canadian dollars. Vietnam uses the dong (VND); cards work in most hotels, but bring some cash for markets and tips.
