Overview

One of Vietnam's great adventures. Ride the mountain roads of the far north on the back of a motorbike with a local driver, over Ma Pi Leng Pass, past Heaven's Gate and down to the Nho Que River.

Expect some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in Southeast Asia.

Itinerary

Day 1Hanoi to Ha Giang, Quan Ba & Yen Minh

Early limousine van to Ha Giang (about 6 hours; an overnight sleeper bus the night before is also possible). Meet your driver, then ride through Quan Ba and Heaven's Gate to Yen Minh.

Day 2Dong Van, Lung Cu & Ma Pi Leng

Ride to Lung Cu flag tower and the Hmong King's palace, then over Ma Pi Leng Pass. Boat through the Nho Que River gorge. Night in Du Gia or Meo Vac.

Day 3Back to Ha Giang & Hanoi

Waterfall swim and rice-field roads back to Ha Giang city, then the bus to Hanoi, arriving late evening.

Good to know

You ride as a passenger behind an experienced local driver (easy rider); you do not drive. Helmets are provided. Travel insurance that covers motorbike passengers is required.
Best in the dry months, October to April. Buckwheat flowers bloom around October and November.
Self-drive is not offered: you need a Vietnamese licence to ride legally.
Prices are per person in Canadian dollars. Vietnam uses the dong (VND); cards work in most hotels, but bring some cash for markets and tips.

Cancellation

Cancel at least 7 days before departure for a full refund. Inside that, hotel and transport costs are committed and we refund what our suppliers release.
